The film is set in 11th century England. The two fall in love and soon they are wed. The times are turbulent and Godiva proves a militant bride; unhistorically, unrest between the Anglo-Saxon populace and the increasingly influential Norman French led to her famous ride. She filmed the famous ride wearing a leotard, with her long hair covering the rest of her body. Arthur Lubin said he was inspired by the painting of Landseer.
From on, fiery redhead Maureen O'Hara appeared in nearly seventy pictures, and, aside from stopping for a decade in the go-go '80s, she has been at work nonstop. Maureen got her big break in My Irish Molly , but it was when she traversed to America for a part in The Hunchback of Notre Dame that Maureen finally found fame. And that's just to name a few. But sadly, it was a different time, and the Irish-born beauty never got an opportunity to expose her true talents. The closest to skin Maureen has gotten was posing naked on a horse for an oil painting used in Lady Godiva. She lent the painting to a studio, which lost it. Some lucky fellow has got the treasure, it's a sure bet.
